A letter from Gaza
August, 2013

For the first time in three years, this is the first Eid I have celebrated in Gaza, since I was out of Gaza for studies.

It is very painful to see how children here are still celebrating Eid with games that are irrelevant to childhood. Israelis against Arabs is a very violent game children still play in Gaza. It is an inter-generational game :(.

It is logical to find children playing such games with artificial plastic guns in hands – due to the long years of occupation, two wars of aggression in less than 4 years, the ongoing blockade, and a highly fragmented internal political reality in Palestine.

The root cause of the problem is the prolonged Israeli occupation and its profound negative impacts on the daily life of occupied people, particularly the young generation. It’s just painful and pathetic.
I hope tomorrow will bring light of change to this awful reality
